The Iceland poppy plant provides showy blossoms in late spring and early summer. Growing Iceland poppies in the spring bed is a great way to add delicate foliage and long-lasting flowers to the area. When planted in the right spot, the Iceland poppy plant blooms from May through July. Iceland poppy flowers attract birds, butterflies and bees. The flowers of the Iceland poppy plant are usually orange and reach 2 feet (60 cm.) in height and the same in spread.

DAYS TO GERMINATION: 7-12 days at 65-75°F (18-24°C)

SOWING: Transplant - Sow into 128-cell flats 6-8 weeks before planting outdoors or into a covered structure. Cover seeds very lightly. Bottom water or mist to avoid displacing seeds and soil. Harden-off and transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed, or transplant directly into a covered structure. Direct seed - Sow in early spring when soil is cool and a light frost is still possible, or late autumn. Surface-sow and keep soil evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Pinching plants is not necessary nor beneficial. Iceland poppies perform best in cooler conditions. Bloom production and quality declines as temperatures rise.

LIGHT PREFERENCE: Sun/Part Shade.
PLANT HEIGHT: 15-20".
PLANT SPACING: 6-8".
HARDINESS ZONES: Zones 3-9.
VASE LIFE: 5-7 days.
HARVEST: As the buds just begin to open and show a bit of color but before they fully expand. Place in clear water.
SOIL REQUIREMENTS: Moist, well-drained soil.
USES: Cut flower. Beds, borders, mass plantings and containers.

***These seeds can be planted in the fall for spring growth. Just choose the location and sprinkle your seeds on top of the soil. Cover with soil and you should see them sprouting in the early spring. If you choose to start them indoors the seeds need to go through a period of cold (called stratification). To do this, place seeds in the fridge for 3 months. After this period is over, you can remove the seeds from the fridge and plant as normal. This tricks the seeds into thinking they have had a winter.

Each package has approximately 40 washed seeds.
